Our focus is your baby’s comfort throughout the session. We aim to capture the variety of sleepy poses you see in our gallery, but will adapt to relaxed posing if your baby is awake and active. The following recommendations can help create a soothing environment for your baby.

For your baby’s comfort, your photographer may request for you to adjust your thermostat or close the vents in the area. Keeping your baby awake prior the photographer’s arrival may help them sleep more soundly during the session. Try giving your baby a bath or letting them kick and play on a playmat or in their crib.

We recommend removing your baby’s clothing down to their diaper and wrapping them in a loose blanket in preparation for their session. If possible, we suggest waiting to feed your baby until your photographer arrives. Set-up usually takes about 20-30 minutes. Ideally, your baby will be finishing up their feeding around the same time the photographer is ready to begin. If your baby is hungry before the photographer arrives, please go ahead with the feeding. We will take breaks as needed for additional feedings.

Handy items to have nearby:

  • Extra receiving blanket
  • Burp cloth
  • Fresh diaper and wipes
  • Pacifier, if you use one
  • Prepared bottle, if your baby is bottle feeding

Safety is a priority for all members of your family. If you have young children or pets, please keep them clear of the photographer’s equipment and work area.

Your photographer will bring all of the items needed for your session, including props, equipment and lighting. The amount of space needed for our portable newborn studio is approximately 7 x 8 feet. If your baby is awake and active during the session, your photographer may request to utilize a bed in the home to most safely achieve certain poses.

We ask that someone be present in the room for the entire session to assist with the baby as needed. Your photographer may ask you to assist in holding the baby at certain times during the session. If at any time during the session you need to step away, please ensure someone you trust is available.

Our newborn package offers a range of poses for your newborn, including some sibling and parent photos. Choose between casual lifestyle photos (such as on a bed, a couch, or in your nursery) or studio-style photos with a light or dark neutral backdrop. If opting for lifestyle images, please remove any items or clutter that you do not want to appear in the images.

Planning your wardrobe

  • Choose similar styles and colors for continuity. For example, coordinate the whole family in one style, such as casual, dressy, etc., and focus on a complementary color palette. A cohesive family wardrobe ensures that no one person draws the focus of the image.
  • Select timeless basics, the tried and true pieces in your closet, to avoid your images appearing outdated in the future.
  • Wear clothing that makes you feel good! Begin with the family member with the most limited wardrobe options and style others to match.

Avoid the following, as they can distract from baby and/or create unflattering effects in digital photography:

  • Large graphics
  • Highly saturated reds/magentas
  • Pinstripes

Feel free to discuss preparation for your session with your photographer or reach out to us at any time.

Congratulations! We are looking forward to your newborn session!
